Caring for your jewellery
A little care keeps your pieces looking beautiful for years — for weddings now, and for your daughters later.
Every day
- Put your jewellery on last — after make-up, perfume and hairspray — and take it off first.
- Keep it dry. Take pieces off before washing your hands, bathing or swimming.
- Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing to remove sweat and make-up.
Storing your pieces
- Keep each piece in its own box or soft pouch so stones and threads don’t catch on each other.
- Lay necklaces flat, and keep them away from damp bathrooms and direct sunlight.
- Adding a small packet of silica gel (from shoe boxes) to your jewellery box helps keep moisture away.
Kundan & polki
The stones are set in foil, so water is their enemy. Never soak or wash them — just wipe with a dry cloth. Retie the dori (cord) gently, without pulling on the stones.
Pearls
Pearls are soft and lose their shine with perfume and lotions. Wipe them after each wear and store them flat, away from harder pieces that could scratch them.
Oxidised silver
The dark finish is part of the design — don’t polish it with silver cleaner. Wipe with a dry cloth and store in an airtight bag.
Gold-plated & zircon
Plating lasts longest when kept away from water and chemicals. Zircon stones can be brightened with a soft, dry brush.
